My work embodies the often-overlooked power of simplicity.  I use saturated colors, bold lines, and geometric shapes to create images that evoke strong emotional respones from viewers. I exploit the conflict between the organic unpredictability of watercolors and the idealized perfection of parallel lines. By stripping away unnecessary intricacies, these paintings force viewers to confront the brute force of the building blocks of visual art.  

 

about the artist

Educated as a scientist, Renee began painting in the final years of her PhD, as a way of coping with her sterile, achromatic lab environment. Entirely self-taught, Renee delights in experimenting with both color and concept.
